MECHANIC’s CREED

Upon my honor, I swear that I shall hold in sacred trust the rights and privileges conferred upon me as Licensed aircraft Maintenance Engineer, knowing full well that the safety and lives of others are dependent upon my skill and judgement, I shall never knowingly subject others to risks which I would not be willing to assume for myself, or for those dear to me. In discharging this trust, I pledge myself never to undertake work or approve work which I feel to be beyond the limit of my license or knowledge; nor shall I allow any non-qualified superior/operator to persuade me into approving aircraft or equipment as airworthy against my better judgement; nor shall I permit my judgement to be influenced by money or other personal gain; nor shall I pass as airworthy aircraft or equipment about which I am in doubt, either as a result of direct inspection or uncertainty regarding the ability of others who have worked on it to accomplish their work satisfactorily. I realize the grave responsibility which is mine as a licensed maintenance engineer, to exercise my judgement on the airworthiness of aircraft and equipment. I, therefore, pledge unyielding adherence to these precepts for the advancement of aircraft maintenance engineering, aviation and the Federal republic of Nigeria.

We are Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of Nigeria. We seek to partner with positive-minded stakeholders in the aviation industry, in particular and the country in general, to improve, advance and modernize the practice of aircraft maintenance in our country. As we are all aware, after manufacture, for any aircraft to commence service by an operator, it has to be properly maintained and be released to service by a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. This certifies that the aircraft is airworthy. Only then will the Pilot accept the aircraft with confidence and fly it.

In Nigeria, this craft is stipulated by law in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations. It is the same requirement for all countries under the International Civil Aviation organization (ICAO); the importance of appropriate maintenance of aircraft cannot, therefore, be underestimated. It is well rooted in the civil and military aviation regulations all over the world. It is very clear that after the manufacturer has put in appropriate designed equipment for safety, quality and comfort, the onus to maintain them, to keep the aircraft airworthy, falls on the Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. For an operator, a well-maintained aircraft will give optimal performance, have a long service life and bring in desired profit for the owners.

For the crew, passengers and other occupants, it gives the technical assurance and satisfaction that they will get to their destinations safely. I am certain that nobody will board an aircraft and embark on the journey if he/she is informed that the aircraft is not serviceable. For our country, effective aircraft maintenance greatly contributes to boosting business and leisure with huge benefits for the economy. Hence, the essential duty of the Licensed Aircraft Engineer is well laid out for him/her. The Society was duly incorporated on the 29th October, 2004 by the Corporate Affairs Corporation – CAC with Certificate of Incorporation No. CAC/IT/No 17709.
